Who it is for

Journalists, researchers and NGO staff first; interested readers second. Success means being cited and reused — not page views. That order drives every decision: citation accuracy first, then a complete methodology, then data quality, then stable links, then visuals.

What it is not

• It does not track people. Displaced people are a persecuted population; publishing individual locations or identities can expose their families to reprisals or jeopardise asylum claims. This site only ever handles group-level statistics published by UNHCR, IDMC and the UN — and that is non-negotiable.
• It does not fundraise for displaced people. To give to displaced people, go directly to the organisations listed below — no charitable money passes through this site, and no referral fees are taken. Voluntary sponsorship of the site's own upkeep is a separate thing entirely: see Support this site.
• It does not track you. No analytics, no cookies, no third-party scripts. The basemap tiles come from OpenFreeMap; the data and code are served as static files.

Who makes this

Independently maintained by Lakkev (lakkev.com). No external funding; hosting cost is $0/month (static site + free tiers). Every published data snapshot is committed to a version-controlled repository — even if this site ever disappears, every number remains retrievable and verifiable. Data, licences and code

The data is open: reproduced under its original open licences (UNHCR CC BY 4.0, IDMC CC BY-IGO, UN WPP CC BY 3.0 IGO, Natural Earth public domain), with attribution embedded in every download. The site's own code is all rights reserved (repository). Current data snapshot: 21506b7d.

Report a problem

Every page has a "Report a problem" link that pre-fills the current view. Or write to [email protected] — open a pre-filled report. Please include the share link of the view and, if you can, the number you expected and where it is published. Data errors that trace back to an upstream source are reported upstream; errors in our pipeline are fixed and logged in docs/data-verification.md.

Organisations working with displaced people

This site does not fundraise for displaced people, routes no charitable money, and receives no referral fees — and commits to never accepting them; if that ever changes, this page will say so before any link changes. The organisations below work directly with displaced people; each link goes to their own page, and each publishes audited financial reports. Disclosure: UNHCR is also the primary source of the data on this site. Independent evaluations: Charity Navigator and GiveWell (both US-based raters whose methods can disadvantage Global-South organisations).

Maintenance

The pipeline runs automatically every day and degrades gracefully: if a source is unavailable, the previous snapshot stays online and a notice appears. On the use of AI: the data pipeline is deterministic code — no model has generated, estimated or modified any number; every figure is traceable byte-for-byte to the original UNHCR, IDMC or UN release (see the methodology page and sources.json). AI assists only with maintaining the code and documentation, and its output always passes automated validation (21 daily invariant checks) and the repository's audit trail.
